The 160km fireballer's determination to wear his brother's number 54→44 "I have to do better, I will be a perfect must-win group."

Kim Seo-hyun was nominated by the Hanwha Eagles as the No. 1 overall pick in the first round of the 2023 Rookie Draft. He received a lot of attention from his high school days by throwing fastballs that ranged over 150 kilometers, but he failed to stand out except for the 160-kilometer super fastball, with only one save and an ERA of 7.25 in 20 games in his first season. However, Kim Seo-hyun changed a lot last year.

Kim Seo-hyun, who did not receive any significant opportunities except in the early days of the season, has displayed remarkable growth in 37 games with one win, two losses and 10 holds with an ERA of 3.76. It was questionable whether he was the right pitcher who went through a period of wandering, failing to settle down on a single pitching form. As a result, he was happy to join the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Premier 12 national team, and pitched in four games and pitched salty water, not giving up a single run based on his fastball of up to 155 kilometers.먹튀검증

Ryu Joong-il said after the friendly match with the Cuban national team, "What impressed me was that I thought (Kim) Seo-hyun was not good at breaking balls. He played ball against the second batter, and then managed to catch all of them with three breaking balls. I thought if the ball went fast, the ball control would fall off, which was very impressive," adding, "He is a player who can compete." He also joined the Melbourne camp in Australia to take the team to the next level.

With a different position in a year, the mood seemed quite different. "I do feel very different. When I go to the spring camp, I usually go with the thought of 'I have to do well', so my mindset is similar, but I feel different every year," Kim Seo-hyun said, expressing his expectations for the spring camp under the coach Kim Kyung-moon.

It is time for the pitching form to settle down, but Kim Seo-hyun has been under a lot of stress from the pitching form. Especially during the wandering period, he changed his form to look like Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LA Dodgers). "I was under a lot of stress because there was so much talk about pitching form. Therefore, I did a lot of balance-oriented exercises this winter. I tried to establish the pitching form as much as possible so that there was no talk about pitching form, and I lost a lot of body fat," he said.

Kim Seo-hyun, who is entering this season, has a slightly different mindset. This is why he removed the number of his friend, which he had been using, and wore the number 44, which his brother had been using. Kim Seo-hyun's brother Kim Ji-hyun wore the SSG Landers' uniform as a nurturing player last year, but he got to experience the pain of being released after one game. As a result, Kim Seo-hyun wore the number 44, which his brother used in the Premier 12, and decided to wear the number 44 in Hanwha as well.

"I've never played a full-time season while using No. 54. And No. 44 is my brother's number, too. I think a lot that I need to do better," Kim said. "I used to use No. 11 in high school, but Hanwha almost gave up No. 11 (Thumbs up 11). No. 54 was used by my friend, but since No. 44 was used by my brother, I play baseball with the mindset that I need to do better."

Kim Seo-hyun has achieved "balance" as the goal of this spring camp. Since ball power is powerful enough to work in international competitions and ball speed reaches the highest level in the KBO league, balance is the most important thing for consistent pitching. Kim Seo-hyun also received a lot of advice from KT Wiz and Choi Il-eon in the Premier 12 national team. As Kim knows this, he brought up the word "balance" several times.

"I gained a lot of confidence compared to the beginning of last year. That's why I think it will be helpful in preparing for this season," Kim Seo-hyun said. "I received a lot of advice on balance and center movement (from the Premier 12 national team). And he taught me how to use change-up to my advantage. I practiced this part a lot, and if I focus on it in the spring camp, I think my balance will become more constant than last year. Actually, the balance can't always be constant because my condition, weather, and mound are all different every day, but I will still exercise to be somewhat similar."

Then, what is Kim's goal this season? "I think I have to do better than last year. I joined the must-win group in the second half of last year, but now I have to settle down as a must-win group. I think I have to work hard to become a pitcher who can go out and block me when it's important," he said. "I want to finish whenever I have a chance. So far, I am not at the stage where I can rub against Hyun Sang, so I will do my best as much as I can."
